I am struggling to survive. I was enrolled in a PhD program and after
putting in 5 years my advisor did some very unethical things and took
her racist views out on me. As a result, I had no choice but to leave
the lab and the school with a MS degree. I incurred a lot of student
loans and health care costs for what I was put through. Now I am trying
to start over but I have lost my faith in academia and higher education
in the sciences. I am working as a technician in a lab but my pay is
barely enough to survice. I have to commute a total of 3-4 hours daily
to go to work and I have an old car which may not make it much longer.
It makes me nervous to drive at night and during bad weather
conditions. If anyone can offer any suggestions on how I can make some
additional money to get by or would be generous enough to loan me some
